Harry St. Francis Black
To The Life Of
I first heard about Harry St. Francis Black from my father-in-law,
Ralph Chester Corey, Jr. sometime in 1998. Most of his mother's
maternal line, the Bartberger family history, had already been
compiled by his relatives, but he did not have much information
on her paternal line, Harry S. Black's family and father, Thomas
Black. Ralph, knowing about my interest in genealogical research,
asked me to search for information about Thomas and his ancestry.
He had several pedigree charts that had been compiled on his
different family lines and he gave these to me to aid in my search.

This search became frantic when Ralph was diagnosed with stomach
cancer in December of 1999. I began submitting posts to surname
listserves as a desperate attempt to find some kind of information
that would lead me to a connection to the Black family history. No
answers came before Ralph passed away in December of 2000. I was
embarrassed that I couldn't find any information, so I didn't even
discuss any of my failed attempts with him during our last
conversations.

Oh, how I wished I had, for now I am finding out all these years
later that Ralph had a wealth of knowledge that had never been
written down, it was simply personal knowledge that he sometimes
talked about with his wife, Marilyn and their daughter, Catherine.
This website was created in January 2007
to honor the interesting life and career of
Harry St. Francis Black.
